A vocal critic of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has accused the administration of spreading disinformation following reports that her alleged application for asylum in the Netherlands has been denied.
In a statement released on social media, the former Philippine official slammed the Department of Justice (DOJ) for allegedly fabricating claims about her legal status abroad.
“I am not at all surprised that the Marcos Jr. administration, through the Department of Justice, has once again taken on the role of spreading fake news,” she said.
According to her, this is the second time the DOJ has peddled false information, citing an earlier claim by the DOJ Secretary that she was using multiple passports. “This is already strike two for the DOJ Secretary. First, he claimed that I supposedly hold multiple passports. Now, they’re spreading the narrative that my asylum application has been denied. What’s next—gossip gathered from neighborhood Maritess sessions?” she added.
She clarified that her recent visit to Germany was a long-scheduled engagement in response to an invitation from the Filipino community there. During her visit, she administered the oathtaking of the group Hakbang ng Maisug Germany.
“I am already back at The Hague in the Netherlands,” she confirmed, dismissing rumors of her supposed asylum denial.
Taking a swipe at the Marcos administration’s controversial intelligence funds, she said: “You don’t need billions of pesos in confidential and intelligence funds to know my whereabouts. Just check my Facebook account. Everything is there, open for the public to see.”
As of writing, the DOJ has not issued a formal response to her statement.
