Rogelio “Babes” Singson, former DPWH secretary, has stepped down as commissioner of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI). According to ICI chairperson Andy Reyes, the intense and stressful nature of the work has taken a toll on Singson’s health, prompting him to resign. His resignation takes effect on December 15, pero puwedeng ma-extend hanggang December 21.

Earlier, former Negros Oriental Representative Jacinto “Jing” Paras revealed that Singson had long planned to leave the commission dahil umano hindi niya nagugustuhan ang direction at structure ng ICI. Singson later clarified that he was simply winding down his remaining tasks before stepping aside.

Singson is now the second high-profile member to resign from the ICI, following the earlier exit of Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, who left the body after tensions with the Palace Press Office regarding the commission’s investigative authority.

Ayon naman kay Caloocan City Rep. Egay Erice, the ICI’s limited powers may have contributed to Singson’s decision to withdraw from the commission.
