From Courtroom to Clay: How Elaine Antonio Bordeaux Turned Courage Into Art

In a world that often asks us to choose one path, Elaine Antonio Bordeaux is proof that you can pursue them all—with courage, purpose, and heart.

A Filipina American sculptor based in Colorado, Elaine's story is a powerful journey of rediscovery. Born in the Philippines, she began drawing as a child, moved by the quiet magic of pencil on paper. But like many dreamers, she set aside her artistic aspirations to pursue a more “practical” path. At just 25, she became a lawyer in the Philippines, a profession she embraced with passion and integrity.

Later, Elaine migrated to the United States, becoming a licensed attorney in New York in 2008. For 15 years, she fiercely advocated for immigrants, refugees, and victims of forced migration. She walked with the broken-hearted, listened to their stories, and helped them find safety and hope in a new land. But through it all, something deep within her remained—the voice of the artist she had always been.

In 2016, that voice became too strong to ignore. Elaine returned to art with open arms, no longer willing to silence her creative spirit. With unwavering commitment, she began her formal training at prestigious institutions such as the Art Students League of New York, New York Academy of Art, Barcelona Academy of Art, and Houston Baptist University. She wasn’t just returning to art—she was stepping into her purpose.

Two years later, in Colorado, Elaine found her medium in bronze. She began sculpting figures that embodied bravery and strength—people whose stories moved her, whose courage mirrored the very fight she had seen in the lives of those she served as a lawyer. This body of work became known as the Courage Exhibition—a powerful tribute to resilience, heroism, and the human spirit.

Elaine’s sculptures are not just art—they are conversations. They are stories carved in metal, shaped by her own experiences as an immigrant, a Filipina, a woman of faith, and a champion for justice. Through her hands, bronze becomes testimony—of love, of sacrifice, and of the strength it takes to rise.

In October 2023, her work and impact were recognized on the global stage. She was named one of the Most Influential Filipina Women in the World by the Filipina Women’s Network (FWN) during its summit in Prague. One of only 16 honorees selected from 35 countries, Elaine’s recognition marked more than just an award—it was a celebration of what’s possible when passion and purpose collide.

As part of her global pitch project, she is now sculpting a bust of Magdalena Leones, a World War II Filipina hero and spy who risked her life to protect others. Known as the “Lioness of Asia,” Leones’ legacy will be honored in war museums across the United States—ensuring that the courage of one Filipina woman inspires many more.

Elaine’s journey continues with monumental projects, including an 8-foot sculpture of Dr. Jose Rizal in Colorado Springs, and more exhibitions of her Courage series across the U.S. and Europe.

She was recently named a 2024–2025 Honored Listee of Marquis Who’s Who in America, a distinction reserved for individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership and impact in their fields.

“This recognition reflects my dedication and contributions to my field and serves as a testament to the values of hard work, innovation, and a passion for excellence,” Elaine said. “I am deeply grateful to be acknowledged alongside such accomplished professionals in America, and I look forward to continuing my journey of growth, creativity, and service in the years to come.”

Elaine Antonio Bordeaux reminds us all that it’s never too late to begin again. That courage takes many forms—from standing in a courtroom to molding history with your hands. And that sometimes, the greatest art is found in the lives we touch along the way.
