Among the first to take notice was Jose C. Jose, Jr., a Molchanovs Freediving Instructor Trainer. “I hadn’t even gone underwater yet, and I was already in awe. The Blue Lagoon was just stunning,” he said. “Once I dove, I realized—it’s completely untouched.”

The Blue Lagoon, just one of many emerging sites in the province, is now drawing freedivers from across the country and beyond, eager to explore its crystal-clear waters and thriving marine life.

Local Passion Breeds Conservation

What makes Northern Samar’s rise even more inspiring is that much of it is driven by locals. Witness Tugkad Free Diving, a community formed by young professionals who wanted to do more than just dive—they wanted to protect their home.

Started as a grassroots effort, Tugkad is now a respected organization offering professional freediving lessons with an emphasis on sustainability and marine conservation. Their goal is clear: train the next generation of ocean stewards while welcoming visitors who respect the environment.

“Our waters have been beautiful for generations,” one member shared. “Now that the world is watching, we want to make sure they stay that way.”
