American tourist dies after fight in Panglao tourist hotspot

A night out in one of Bohol’s busiest tourist areas turned deadly after a 63-year-old American tourist died following a violent bar fight in Panglao.

Police said the victim, identified only by the alias “Williams,” was allegedly struck with a chair during a fistfight at a bar along Alona Beach in Barangay Tawala late Saturday night, September 26.

According to the Bohol Tourist Police Unit, authorities were alerted to the disturbance at around 11:45 p.m. Initial investigation showed that the American and a 41-year-old Filipino man became involved in a heated argument before the confrontation escalated into a fistfight. Police reports said both men appeared to have been drinking.

During the altercation, the Filipino suspect allegedly grabbed a chair and struck the American, causing him to collapse and lose consciousness.

The victim was rushed to the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center in Tagbilaran City, but doctors declared him dead on arrival at around 12:20 a.m. Sunday, September 27.

Responding police officers arrested the suspect, who reportedly remained at the scene after the incident.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the deadly confrontation and determine the appropriate charges.

Police have not yet publicly released the American victim’s full identity in the reports reviewed.
