2 dead, several injured in Germany bus crash carrying 33 Filipinos

Two people were killed and several others injured after a bus carrying 33 Filipino tourists overturned on the A96 highway near Buchloe, west of Munich in Bavaria, while traveling from Milan to Munich for Oktoberfest.

German police said the bus left the highway and overturned early Sunday morning. One of the fatalities was identified as a 58-year-old Filipino citizen. Several passengers were taken to hospitals, including one person initially reported to be in life-threatening condition.

The Philippine Consulate General in Frankfurt confirmed that it is in close contact with some of the affected Filipinos and their relatives while working to determine the condition and whereabouts of everyone involved.

The consulate said two people died, several were brought to hospitals across Bavaria for treatment, while the remaining passengers are safe and under the care of the Red Cross.

PCG Frankfurt and the Philippine Honorary Consulate in Munich are coordinating with German authorities and the Philippine Migrant Workers Office to provide assistance to the victims and their families. Philippine consular officials have also visited some of those affected.

The bus driver is being investigated for negligent homicide, which German authorities said is standard procedure in a fatal crash. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
