U.S. Army veteran missing in Philippines as police trace Negros ATM trail

Philippine authorities are intensifying the search for 43-year-old American and reported U.S. Army veteran Nathan Macvittie of Missouri, who has been missing since arriving in the country in June, as investigators follow a trail of financial transactions across Negros Island.

Police in Negros Oriental are reconstructing the U.S. veteran’s movements in an effort to determine where he traveled, whom he may have met and what happened after his last known activity.

Capt. Stephen Polinar, spokesperson for the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, said authorities confirmed that Macvittie arrived in Cebu City from Manila on June 5. Investigators, however, have yet to determine how he traveled from Cebu to Negros Oriental.

Police are coordinating with the NOrPPO Provincial Intelligence Unit, Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region, Philippine Coast Guard and airline companies to trace his movements. Authorities also plan to coordinate with the Bureau of Immigration to verify his travel history.

ATM trail leads across Negros

Flyers distributed by Macvittie’s family contain a financial timeline showing a series of ATM card transactions in Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental, providing investigators with possible clues about his route.

The transactions indicate that the American veteran may have passed through Dumaguete City, Bacong, Dauin, Zamboanguita, Bayawan City, Sta. Catalina, Jimalalud and Guihulngan City in Negros Oriental.

Additional transactions were recorded in Calatrava, Cadiz and Bacolod City in Negros Occidental.

But despite the extensive financial trail, police said none of the transactions has resulted in a confirmed sighting of Macvittie, deepening the mystery surrounding his disappearance.

The final transaction listed on the family’s timeline was recorded in Tayasan, Negros Oriental, on July 20. Investigators are now trying to determine what happened to the U.S. veteran after that date.

Police continue to retrace Macvittie’s movements and gather information that could reveal where he stayed, who he encountered and where he went after his last known financial activity.
