Authorities have formally filed multiple criminal charges against a 35-year-old male suspect in connection with the brutal slaying of seven individuals at a bakery in Antipolo City, Rizal.
The suspect now faces seven counts of murder, as filed before the Office of the City Prosecutor of Antipolo, following the horrific incident that unfolded in the early hours of April 22, 2025.
According to the Rizal Police Provincial Office, the crime occurred at a bakery located in Purok 1, Zone 8, Barangay Cupang. At around 7:40 a.m., a report was received from a Barangay Tanod regarding a possible stabbing incident. Responding officers proceeded to the scene to verify the report and initiate an investigation.
Upon arrival, authorities found the lifeless bodies of seven male victims inside the bakery. Initial findings indicated that all the victims were employees of J&B Malunggay Bakery and were residing on the premises. Investigators believe the victims were attacked while asleep, suggesting that the killings were premeditated and executed with clear intent.
The suspect was apprehended shortly afterward at the Headquarters Support Service of the Philippine National Police (PNP). He was taken into custody without resistance and underwent standard physical and medical examinations. He remains under police custody pending further legal proceedings.
In a public statement, the Rizal Police urged the community to remain calm and refrain from sharing unverified information as the investigation continues. Authorities are focused on collecting solid evidence to ensure a strong prosecution and justice for the victims.
In his statement to investigators, the suspect claimed he acted in self-defense, alleging that the victims had conspired to kill him. He said they planned to smother him with a pillow and make it appear to his wife—who was reportedly returning from the province—that he had died from a nightmare or bangungot.
Authorities also confirmed that, based on the suspect’s extrajudicial confession and corroborating footage from security cameras around the scene, they are confident that no other individuals were involved in the crime. With this, the case is considered closed.
