Two days before Christmas, the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu brought the spirit of the holiday season to Filipino fishermen working at the Honolulu Port, reaching out to those spending the festivities far from their families and loved ones.
Led by Consul General Arman R. Talbo, the Consulate distributed clothes, care packages, and warm Filipino meals, along with heartfelt messages of encouragement and solidarity. The visit aimed to remind the fishermen that they are not forgotten during a time traditionally devoted to family, faith, and togetherness.
The outreach activity was made possible with the assistance of the Hawaii Longline Association, as well as volunteers from the Knights of Peter Claver and its Ladies Auxiliary, and the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus. Their combined efforts helped ensure that the fishermen received both material support and a sense of community during the holiday season.
During the visit, Consul General Talbo extended Christmas greetings on behalf of the Consulate and reaffirmed the Philippine government’s commitment to protecting and supporting overseas Filipino workers, including those in the fishing industry. He emphasized that the welfare, safety, and dignity of Filipino seafarers and fishermen remain a priority of the Philippine government.
The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu conducts regular visits to Filipino fishermen working at the Honolulu Port, particularly during the holidays. These visits serve not only to monitor working and living conditions and ensure their safety, but also to strengthen ties within the Filipino community abroad.
Through these efforts, the Consulate continues to bring comfort, connection, and a sense of home to Filipinos working far from their families, especially during meaningful occasions such as Christmas.
