Missing U.S. military veteran found alive and safe in Philippines

A 43-year-old U.S. citizen and military veteran who had been reported missing in the Philippines has been found alive and safe, according to the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office.

The American, identified as Nathan Macvittie, was located after police traced his movements and eventually established direct contact with him.

Capt. Stephen Polinar, spokesperson for the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, said Macvittie personally confirmed that he was in good condition and had already contacted his family in the United States.

Macvittie’s family had reported him missing after losing contact with him in mid-June, weeks after he arrived in the Philippines.

Concern over his whereabouts intensified after his family circulated a flyer containing a financial timeline showing a series of ATM card transactions across the Negros Island Region.

The last transaction listed on the family’s timeline was recorded in Tayasan, Negros Oriental, on July 20, prompting local authorities to validate the information and retrace Macvittie’s movements.

Police coordinated their verification efforts and were eventually able to confirm that the U.S. veteran was safe.

Authorities said there was no indication of foul play or any threat to Macvittie’s safety.

Macvittie also told police that he had recently traveled to Iloilo City, providing investigators with additional information about his movements after leaving Negros.

The confirmation brings an end to weeks of concern surrounding the American veteran’s disappearance and the search to determine his whereabouts.
