A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck the waters off Cagwait, Surigao del Sur at 10:32 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
The tectonic quake, recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers, was felt in several parts of Mindanao, causing residents to rush out of their homes as the ground shook violently.
PHIVOLCS reported the following felt intensities:

Intensity III (Weak to Moderate): City of Bislig, Surigao del Sur; City of Mati, Davao Oriental
As of press time, there were no reports of casualties or major structural damage, but authorities have warned that aftershocks and minor damage are possible.
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and local disaster response units have been placed on high alert to assess potential damage, monitor aftershocks, and assist affected communities.
Residents in nearby coastal areas were advised to remain vigilant, stay away from weakened structures, and follow safety protocols in case of further tremors.
Saturday night’s earthquake follows a series of seismic events in southern Mindanao this year, underscoring the region’s location along the Philippine Trench, one of the country’s most active earthquake zones.
Authorities continue to monitor the area and remind the public to stay informed through official PHIVOLCS and government advisories.
