Unidentified suspects set fire to the vehicle of a local journalist in a violent incident that occurred in Barangay Poblacion, Sagay, Camiguin, in the early hours of Saturday, May 10, 2025.

According to the Camiguin Police, the incident happened around 2:00 a.m. The vehicle, a Nissan NV350 Urvan registered under the name of media personality Manny Jaudian, was partially burned. Jaudian is a reporter for Mindanao Daily Newsbased in Camiguin and a former president of the Cagayan de Oro Press Club. He also hosts the news podcast “Kalandrakas” on the same network. The vehicle bore media markings from his news outfit.

In response to the incident, the Police Regional Office 10 (PRO 10), through the Sagay Municipal Police Station, coordinated promptly with the local Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Sagay Fire Station to investigate the scene. Authorities recovered a plastic container and a makeshift incendiary device emitting flammable vapors. These items have been submitted to the laboratory for forensic examination.

Initial reports confirm that only a portion of the vehicle was damaged and that no injuries were reported.

“As media vanguards, PRO 10 assures the public and the media community that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the true cause of the fire,” said PRO 10 in an official statement. “This swift response and continued investigative effort reflect PRO 10’s unwavering commitment to protecting media practitioners, especially amid heightened public interest during the election period.”

PRO 10 also called on members of the media to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or threats to their safety, affirming their role as a steadfast partner in upholding press freedom.
