Filipino actress Maris Racal continues to shine on the international stage as her critically acclaimed film Sunshine secures a North American theatrical release and a planned English-language remake.

According to a report by Screen Daily, Canadian film distributor Indiecan Entertainment has acquired the North American distribution rights to the film. The deal also includes remake rights, paving the way for a North American version of Sunshine.

Indiecan’s Avi Federgreen has been tapped to direct the upcoming remake, marking a significant milestone for the film and its creators.

Filmmaker Antoinette Jadaone, who directed the original, shared the news of the international distribution deal and remake during the Cannes Market, where the agreement was officially signed. The deal was brokered through the support of their sales agent and representatives from Sine Institute.

In addition to its international success, Sunshine is expected to be released in Philippine cinemas soon, with the production team currently finalizing details for its local theatrical run.

Sunshine previously made waves after winning the Crystal Bear for Best Film at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival in February, gaining critical acclaim for its heartfelt storytelling and performances.

This new milestone not only highlights the growing global recognition of Filipino cinema but also marks a major achievement in Maris Racal’s acting career.
