Former Philippine Vice President Leni Robredo is set to make her return to public office after securing a landslide victory in the mayoral race in Naga City, her hometown in the Bicol region.
Robredo, who has remained a popular figure among many Filipinos both at home and abroad, especially in the Filipino diaspora community, received 84,259 votes—an overwhelming 91.6% of those cast. “Thank you very much, my fellow Nagueños, for the big win,” she shared on social media. “Thank you also for your support to An Bagong Team Naga,” referring to her local political slate.
Her closest rival, Toots De Quiros, trailed far behind with just over 6,000 votes.
In Baguio City, known for its cool climate and scenic mountain views, Mayor Benjamin “Benjie” Magalong secured his third and final term with more than 50,000 votes, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec). The 64-year-old official bested congressional representative Mark Go and councilor Benny Bomogao.
Meanwhile, in Metro Manila’s Las Piñas City, April Aguilar was elected mayor with 89,724 votes, ahead of Carlo Aguilar, who earned 61,274. In the race for vice mayor, Imelda Aguilar secured a win with 94,427 votes, defeating Louie Bustamante, who received 51,314.
In Pasig City, reform-minded Mayor Vico Sotto—whose governance style has gained praise among Filipinos worldwide—won re-election with a commanding 326,481 votes. His opponent, businessman Discaya of St. Gerrard Construction, received only 26,852.
For many Filipino Americans, these victories represent a continued investment in good governance and public service in the homeland. Robredo’s return to local politics, in particular, resonates with many Fil-Am supporters who backed her presidential bid in 2022 and supported her civic work through the Angat Buhay Foundation.
As the 2025 midterm election results continue to come in, these early wins mark significant shifts—and affirmations—of leadership in key cities across the Philippines.
