Thomas Pham LeGro, 48, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist with The Washington Post, was arrested on July 2 and charged with possession of child sexual abuse material, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
LeGro made his initial appearance in U.S. District Court following his arrest, which stemmed from a federal investigation involving the search of his residence in Washington, D.C. Authorities allege that LeGro possessed multiple videos depicting child sexual exploitation on his work-issued laptop.
The case is being investigated by the FBI’s Washington Field Office in coordination with the Metropolitan Police Department. It is led by the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, which focuses on crimes involving child exploitation and human trafficking.
According to the criminal complaint, agents executed a search warrant at LeGro’s home on June 26, 2025, and seized several electronic devices. A forensic review of his work laptop uncovered a hidden folder containing 11 videos of child sexual abuse material.
Investigators also discovered broken pieces of a hard drive in the hallway near the room where the laptop was found.
LeGro is currently in federal custody pending further proceedings. If convicted, he faces a substantial prison sentence under federal law.
The investigation remains ongoing.
