The House of Representatives has approved the resolution directing the Office of the House Secretary General to certify that the approval of the Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte complies with the 1987 Constitution.
During the plenary session on Wednesday, Isabela Representative Faustino “Inno” Dy filed a motion instructing the office of Secretary General Reginald Velasco to issue a certification regarding the approved resolution.
Deputy Speaker and Antipolo City Representative Robbie Puno, who was presiding over the session, approved the motion after no objections were raised.
In the Senate impeachment court session on Tuesday, a motion was passed directing the House to provide certification that the impeachment complaint against Duterte adhered to constitutional requirements.
The approved resolution by the House is in response to that directive.
The Senate impeachment court also instructed the House of the 20th Congress to coordinate with the Senate if it is interested in proceeding with hearings on Duterte’s impeachment case.
However, Batangas Representative Gerville Luistro, a member of the House prosecution team, said this would be impossible because the 20th Congress has not yet convened. The 20th Congress will only open on July 28, 2025.
During the House session, Dy also filed a motion to defer accepting the returned Articles of Impeachment until the Senate clarifies its second directive.
Puno also approved the motion after no objections were raised.
