New York — Filipino artistry took the spotlight in New York with the successful staging of the “Hiyas Exhibit,” a Philippine group art showcase that unfolded in two venues — first at LÍKHÂ Gallery in Hawthorn, New York, and later at the Philippine Consulate Center in New York, which hosted the exhibition’s opening reception.
The event featured outstanding Filipino artists from the Philippines, Canada, and the United States, presenting both traditional and contemporary works that explored themes of identity, heritage, and community.
Among the featured artists were Antonio Afable, Ann Constantino Beck, Raynante Carandang, Romeo Cortez Jr., Florentino “Jun” Impas, Kublai Millan, Celso Pepito, Fe Pepito, Marcelino Rodriguez, Cesar Delos Santos III, and Jik Villanueva. The exhibition was curated by Elba Cruz.

The Consulate opening was participated in by Lawig-Diwa President Kublai Millan together with Media Relations and Communications Head Ar Ar Nwebe. The event marked the first international collaboration of Lawig-Diwa, representing an important step toward its vision of building cultural bridges beyond the Philippines.
Organizers underscored that this milestone sets the stage for future collaborations. Lawig-Diwa remains committed to expanding its network, creating opportunities for Filipino artists to engage with the global community, and strengthening cultural identity through art. The organization aims to highlight the resilience, creativity, and spirit of Mindanao while reflecting the richness of the Filipino people as a whole.

The “Hiyas Exhibit” drew art lovers, cultural advocates, and members of the Filipino American community, who came together to celebrate the talent and global presence of Filipino artists.
