A Filipina with convictions for identity theft targeting an older victim and domestic violence was arrested by federal immigration officers in Detroit, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
Sarah Jane Hulbert was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on October 16, DHS said in an October 26 announcement highlighting immigration arrests in Michigan.
The agency said Hulbert’s aggravated identity theft conviction involved between $10,000 and $100,000 and a victim aged 60 or older. DHS also cited a domestic violence conviction but provided no court or sentencing details.
Her record also includes arrests involving drunken driving, two counts of intimidation or physical harm, four counts of forgery, two counts of harassment, obstructing police, and computer fraud, according to DHS.
The announcement did not disclose the outcomes of those cases. Those arrests should not be treated as convictions.
DHS said Hulbert entered the United States legally in August 2004 but later became inadmissible following her criminal convictions.
She was subsequently detained by U.S. Customs and Border Protection and released during the Biden administration, the agency said. DHS did not specify when she was released or the legal basis for that decision.
Her arrest was among five cases DHS highlighted in Detroit and Grand Rapids. The agency did not disclose Hulbert’s detention facility, next hearing date, or whether she has a final deportation order.
