NEW YORK — The U.S. Department of Justice has dropped a legal bomb on the Big Apple—suing New York City, Mayor Eric Adams, and top officials for what it calls "reckless sanctuary policies" that let dangerous criminals walk free.

Filed in the Eastern District of New York, the lawsuit claims the city’s refusal to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement has led to “thousands of criminals roaming the streets.” The feds argue this defiance of immigration law puts innocent lives at risk and violates the U.S. Constitution.

“If New York City won’t protect its own people, we will,” thundered Attorney General Pamela Bondi, blasting Adams for “choosing criminals over citizens.”

Assistant Attorney General Brett Shumate didn’t hold back either:

“New York’s days of blocking ICE and ignoring the law are over.”

This latest legal slugfest is part of a full-blown crackdown on so-called sanctuary cities. In just three months, the Justice Department has taken action against Los Angeles, New York State, Illinois, Colorado, Rochester, and several New Jersey towns.

Louisville’s mayor even backed down, scrapping sanctuary protections after the feds came knocking.

Mayor Adams? Radio silence so far.

As tensions rise and lawsuits fly, one thing is clear:The battle over America’s immigration laws just hit New York hard—and it’s only the beginning.
