Authorities in Iloilo have launched a full investigation into the possible involvement of a father in the death of his 36-year-old son, whose body was discovered stuffed inside a canal early Saturday morning in Barangay Sta. Rita, Oton.

The victim, identified as Raymundo Sarad Jr., was found lifeless and bloodied by local residents, prompting an immediate response from the Oton Municipal Police. According to initial reports, Sarad Jr. was last seen on Friday night drinking with his father, raising suspicions about the circumstances surrounding his death.

During a follow-up investigation at the residence shared by the victim and his father, police recovered a knife believed to be a potential murder weapon. The blade was found to have traces of what appeared to be blood. Authorities also noted that the father had visible injuries on his face, including a black eye and other signs of physical trauma, which further fueled suspicions of a possible altercation between the two.

The father was invited for questioning by the Oton PNP and is currently considered a person of interest. Although he has denied any involvement in his son's death, investigators are not ruling out foul play and are continuing to gather evidence, including forensic analysis of the recovered knife and examination of the crime scene.

Residents of the community expressed shock over the incident, describing the victim as quiet and generally well-mannered. Many were surprised that the tragedy may have stemmed from a domestic dispute.

Police have yet to file formal charges, pending the outcome of the investigation. Authorities are also appealing to anyone who may have witnessed events leading up to the killing or who has relevant information to come forward.

As the investigation continues, the community awaits answers in what is shaping up to be a deeply troubling case of suspected parricide.
