NEW YORK - Filipino migrant workers and community advocates gathered last Saturday for a “Workers Bill of Rights Workshop” organized by Damayan Migrant Workers Association, where participants learned about critical labor protections and shared personal experiences involving workplace rights violations.

The workshop focused on government-mandated employee protections, including Protected Time Off and other workplace rights aimed at safeguarding workers from abuse and unfair treatment.

Organizers said the event served as both an educational forum and a safe space for Filipino workers to openly discuss challenges they have encountered in their workplaces.

Participants also took part in discussions on current affairs in the Philippines and reviewed the results of the Tulungan survey, which tackled issues affecting the Filipino migrant community.

Aside from the educational sessions, the event featured community-building activities, including a special Mother’s Day photobooth and a lively Zumba session that capped the gathering.

Damayan encouraged members of the Filipino community to continue supporting programs aimed at empowering migrant workers through education, advocacy, and community organizing.

The organization also called on the public to become members or volunteers to help sustain future workshops and support services for Filipino workers in the United States.
