Camarines Norte Acting Governor Joseph Ascutia reported that the popular tourist destination, Calaguas Island, was severely damaged by Super Typhoon Uwan. As of now, there is still no access to the island due to rough seas and large waves. He said they are waiting for the ocean to calm before sending a team to assist the affected community on the island.

“In the Calaguas area, the damage is extensive. That’s the reason why they are our top priority. Although we cannot go there yet because of the strong waves, once it’s safe and accessible, we will immediately send assistance,” Acting Governor Ascutia said.

He assured that the provincial government has sufficient funds to support those affected by Typhoon Uwan and commended the barangays for maintaining zero casualties in the province despite being placed under Signal No. 5.

Although Camarines Norte suffered extensive damage from Typhoon Uwan—destroying many homes, properties, and crops—the Acting Governor expressed confidence that the people of Camarines Norte will recover. He praised the barangay officials and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (MDRRMCs) for their effective evacuation of residents from high-risk areas and their prompt rescue operations during the height of the super typhoon, which resulted in zero casualties and no reported deaths.

Acting Governor Ascutia also confirmed that the provincial government is actively responding to the situation, with relief and clearing operations currently underway. Priority is being given to clearing the main roads of Daet, followed by other towns, led by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) in coordination with the Provincial Engineering Office (PEO)PNP-SAF, and BFP. Meanwhile, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) and the Barangay Affairs Office, together with personnel from the PNPPhilippine Coast Guard (PCG)MARSTABFP, and Philippine Army, are conducting relief operations for affected communities.

The Governor added that he will request assistance from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and the Philippine Air Force to ensure that government aid reaches the Calaguas Islands, which were among the hardest-hit areas.

Governor Ascutia emphasized that disaster preparedness is one of the key lessons from this experience, as it helps prevent accidents and loss of life. He credited the cooperation among government agencies and the unity of the people for this achievement.
