BINI Files Complaint Over Spliced Video, Seeks Millions in Damages

SANTA ROSA, LAGUNA — Filipino P-pop girl group BINI has filed a formal complaint against the creator of a controversial “spliced video” that circulated online, accompanied by their lawyer, Atty. Joji Alonso, on Monday, August 18.

The complaint, lodged at the Hall of Justice in Santa Rosa, Laguna, cites unjust vexation under Article 287, in connection with Section 4(b) of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 (RA 10175).

According to Atty. Alonso, the case stems from an edited video that falsely portrayed the members of BINI reacting negatively while sampling Filipino street food.

“The reduced video was running about two minutes and contained nothing but negative reactions… this completely changed the narrative of the show, ’cause what was left was all negativity,” Alonso explained.

If the respondent is found guilty, they could face six to twelve years in prison. BINI’s legal team is also seeking ₱1 million in damages for each member of the group.

The controversy began on July 8, when People Vs Food released a video titled “BINI Tries & Rates Filipino Snacks!”, which received various reactions from netizens. The spliced version of the clip, however, amplified negative perceptions and prompted BINI to pursue legal action.

BINI’s management emphasized that the group is taking the matter seriously to protect their reputation and ensure that manipulated content targeting them does not spread unchecked online.
