QUEENS, NY - Steven Raga has landed a key leadership role in Albany, named Co-Chair of the People’s Budget, the powerful annual spending blueprint of the New York State Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic & Asian Legislative Caucus.
The People’s Budget lays out the Caucus’ priorities for the state budget, pushing for stronger investments in labor protections, affordable housing, healthcare, education, and economic justice issues that hit communities of color the hardest.
As Co-Chair, Raga will help steer budget talks within the Caucus, bring together district-level concerns from lawmakers across the state, and help shape the final recommendations that will influence negotiations for the 2026 state budget.
Raga represents Assembly District 30, which includes Woodside, Elmhurst, Maspeth, Jackson Heights, and East Elmhurst one of the most diverse districts in New York State.
“It’s an honor to take on this role at a time when working families are struggling with rising costs and housing instability,” Raga said. “The People’s Budget makes sure the voices of historically underserved communities are reflected in real budget decisions.”
Caucus Chair Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages praised Raga’s appointment, saying his leadership and commitment to justice have earned the confidence of fellow lawmakers.
Founded in 1966, the Legislative Caucus has long played a major role in pushing for equity and fairness in state policy. Its People’s Budget will guide negotiations leading up to the final state budget, which lawmakers aim to pass by April 1.
For Queens communities and advocates statewide Raga’s new role puts a familiar local voice at the table where New York’s budget priorities are shaped.
