Steven Raga Honored with Distinguished Alumni Award by Stony Brook University

New York State Assemblymember Steven Raga has been awarded the 2025 Distinguished Alumni Award from Stony Brook University in recognition of his exemplary contributions to public service, leadership, and community advocacy.


As part of the recognition, Raga addressed the graduating class during this year’s commencement ceremonies, sharing his journey from Queens to the halls of Albany as the first Filipino American elected to the New York State Assembly.


Representing District 30 in Queens, Raga has become known for his work on affordable housing, anti-hate initiatives, immigrant rights, and equity-driven policies. His leadership has made an impact both in New York and within the larger Filipino American community nationwide.


A native of Queens and a proud product of public schools, Raga completed his undergraduate degree in Political Science at Stony Brook before pursuing graduate studies at institutions including Cornell University and Baruch College.


The Distinguished Alumni Award underscores Raga’s commitment to using education and public service to uplift underserved communities. His recognition by Stony Brook adds to a growing list of achievements in his career as a policymaker and advocate.
