Quezon City, Philippines - In a major win for Filipino retirees and their families, the Social Security System (SSS) is set to increase monthly pensions every September from 2025 to 2027, bringing much-needed relief to more than 3.8 million pensioners. This milestone initiative was confirmed by the Department of Finance (DOF).
Starting this year, retirement and disability pensioners will receive a 10% increase, while survivor or death pensioners—such as spouses of deceased members—will enjoy a 5% boost in their monthly benefits.
SSS estimates that within three years, retirement and disability pensions will rise by 33%, while survivor pensions will grow by 16%, helping uplift the lives of some of the country’s most vulnerable sectors.
Currently, 99.4% of pensioners receive an average of ₱4,923 per month. With the scheduled increases, this will grow to ₱6,548 by September 2027—a total bump of ₱1,625 without requiring any additional contributions from members. The contribution rate hike moratorium will remain in place until 2027.
“This is great news from our President for our pensioners—especially the elderly, persons with disabilities, and surviving family members who have long wished for higher benefits,” said Finance Secretary Ralph Recto. “The government is committed to ensuring this program is implemented effectively, so that no one is left behind in our push to alleviate poverty.”
The DOF also highlighted that this marks the first-ever annual pension increase in SSS history—a sustainable move made possible without putting the fund’s financial health at risk.
