BORACAY, AKLAN — The son and nephew of Senator Jinggoy Estrada were assaulted by three young men in Boracay in the early hours of Saturday, May 24. The suspects have since been apprehended by local authorities.
The victims, identified as 29-year-old Julian Estrada and 24-year-old Jefferelly Luis Vitug, were reportedly walking back to their hotel from a bar when they were suddenly attacked in front of De Pares Hotel in Barangay Balabag at around 2:25 a.m. Both men were temporarily staying at the Mövenpick Resort and Spa.
Based on a police report, a call was made to the Tactical Operations Center, prompting authorities to respond immediately. However, the suspects managed to flee the scene before police arrived. A follow-up operation led to the arrest of the three assailants, all residents of Boracay. They were identified as James Carl Vargas y Jayson, 18; Dwyane David Mecca y Delos Santos, 19; and Renz Khenjie Sarabia y Dumalaog, 18.
The report indicated that the assault appeared to be unprovoked. CCTV footage showed no altercation inside the bar where the victims had earlier been. One of the suspects reportedly confronted Vitug before the group began physically attacking both men.
