The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu, led by Consul General Arman R. Talbo, commemorated the 129th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Dr. José P. Rizal with a solemn wreath and lei offering ceremony at the Philippine Consulate grounds.
The Rizal Day activity was held in partnership with the Knights of Rizal under the leadership of Area Commander Jerry Felicitas, together with the Aloha Chapter, Hawaii Chapter, and Maysa Ohana Chapter. Members of the Filipino community and consular clients also attended the commemoration.
In his remarks, Consul General Talbo himself a member of the Knights of Rizal reflected on this year’s theme, “Rizal: As Our People Rise, Your Teachings and Wisdom Guide Our Way.” He urged Filipinos to live out the ideals of the national hero by applying Rizal’s teachings in everyday life.

Talbo emphasized that honoring José Rizal goes beyond ceremonies, saying Filipinos can follow Rizal’s example by doing their best in every task and contributing meaningfully to the community. He added that through consistent effort and shared responsibility, communities can uplift one another and ensure that no one is left behind.
Following the Consul General’s message, Chapter Commanders and Deputy Commanders delivered readings from Rizal’s works. Excerpts from “To the Filipino Youth,” “Love of Country,” and “My Last Farewell” were read, highlighting Rizal’s enduring call for patriotism, service, and national awakening. Sir Serafin “Jun” Colmenares also shared an excerpt from a Rizal-themed essay that encouraged critical awareness and constructive Rizalism.
The Rizal Day observance concluded with the conferment of a Certificate of Commendation on Sir Alex Vergara, recognizing his initiative and contributions to the upkeep and improvement of the outdoor José Rizal statue and the Hardin ni Rizal area.
The ceremony served as a reminder that more than a century after his martyrdom, Rizal’s ideals continue to inspire Filipinos at home and abroad.
