WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C. has refuted a viral social media post claiming that the United States government will begin a “crackdown” on dual citizens starting October 2025, calling the information false and misleading.

In an official statement, the Embassy clarified that the U.S. government has not announced nor implemented any policy changes concerning dual citizenship. Officials emphasized that the United States continues to recognize individuals who hold citizenship in more than one country and that there is no requirement for dual citizens to renounce another nationality.

The Embassy also stressed that no enforcement operations or legal actions are being carried out against Filipinos or other dual nationals in the United States. It urged the Filipino community to rely on verified information and avoid sharing unverified or misleading social media content.

“Renouncing Philippine citizenship is a serious and irreversible legal act,” the Embassy warned, advising Filipinos not to make legal decisions based on online rumors or misinformation. It encouraged the public to verify information through official government websites and to report false content to the platforms where it is posted.

The Embassy reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Filipinos in the U.S. and ensuring that accurate, up-to-date information reaches the community. For concerns or clarifications, the public is advised to contact the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C. or the nearest Philippine consulate for official guidance.
