NEW YORK - The Philippine Consulate General in New York and the Filipino American Press Club of New York (FAPCNY) have expressed their deepest condolences to the families and communities affected by the powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck off the coast of Sarangani Province in Southern Mindanao on June 8, 2026.

In an official statement, the Philippine Consulate General in New York mourned the lives lost and extended its sympathies to those who were injured, displaced, or otherwise affected by the disaster.

"The Philippine Consulate General in New York extends its heartfelt condolences to the families and communities affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake," the Consulate said.

The Consulate also expressed solidarity with Filipinos both in the Philippines and abroad as rescue, relief, and recovery efforts continue in the affected areas.

Meanwhile, the Filipino American Press Club of New York joined the Philippine Consulate and the broader Filipino community in offering prayers and support to the victims and their families during this difficult time.

"The Filipino American Press Club of New York extends its heartfelt condolences to the families and communities affected by the devastating magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Southern Mindanao," FAPCNY said in a statement.

"We join the Filipino people around the world in mourning the lives lost and praying for the swift recovery of those injured, displaced, and impacted by this tragedy. During this difficult time, we stand in solidarity with our fellow Filipinos and commend the efforts of first responders, volunteers, and government agencies working to assist affected communities."

FAPCNY added that its thoughts and prayers are with the people of Mindanao as they begin the long process of recovery and rebuilding.

Both organizations called on the Filipino community in the United States to keep the victims and their families in their thoughts and prayers as authorities continue emergency response operations and assess the full extent of the damage.

The powerful earthquake triggered widespread concern across Southern Mindanao, prompting search, rescue, and relief efforts as local and national authorities work to assist affected communities.

As recovery efforts continue, the Philippine Consulate General in New York and the Filipino American Press Club of New York reaffirmed their solidarity with the people of Mindanao and all Filipinos affected by the tragedy.
