New York City — Northern Samar, once a sleeping paradise nestled in Eastern Visayas, is now steadily reclaiming its rightful place on the global tourism map. Thanks to the visionary leadership of Congressman Edwin Ongchuan, the province has undergone a remarkable transformation. His commitment to promoting sustainable tourism has breathed new life into the region, unveiling its hidden gems and vibrant cultural heritage to both local and international audiences.
One of the most striking manifestations of this cultural and tourism renaissance is the successful staging of the Miss Ibabao 2025 Beauty Pageant — the centerpiece of the province’s month-long Ibabao Festival. Drawing enthusiastic crowds, the event showcased talented candidates from across the province, each vying for the prestigious crown.

Crowned as Mutya san Ibabao 2025 was Ms. Jhyry-Ross Ybao, who also holds the title of Mutya san San Isidro. Her grace, intelligence, and deep passion for her province captured the hearts of the judges and audience alike.
Joining her on the winners’ podium were:
Ms. Marianne Josel Valladores (Mutya san Silvino Lubos) – 1st Runner-Up
Ms. Zandrea Alexxa Gudgad (Mutya san Las Navas) – 2nd Runner-Up
Ms. Ella Denise Pornias (Mutya san Bobon) – 3rd Runner-Up
Ms. Richel Calipay (Mutya san San Vicente) – 4th Runner-Up
Adding prestige to the event was the panel of judges — a star-studded ensemble led by Ma. Ahtisa Manalo, newly crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2025. She was joined by Winwyn Marquez, this year’s First Runner-Up, and Ariella Arida, National Director of the Miss Universe Philippines Organization. Their presence brought both glamour and gravitas to the pageant.
A highlight of the evening — and a topic of widespread excitement — was the underwater photo shoot, conceptualized by Ms. Rose Anne Suan from the Office of the Governor. With the support of the Tugkad Free Diving Group, candidates participated in an underwater session to showcase the province’s breathtaking marine biodiversity. The innovative segment aimed to spotlight Northern Samar’s largely untapped diving and eco-tourism potential.
More than just a test of beauty and confidence, the underwater photos symbolized the province’s deep connection to its natural environment. It was a powerful fusion of beauty, advocacy, and environmental consciousness — a fitting reflection of the province’s evolving identity.
As the Ibabao Festival continues, this year’s edition stands as more than just a celebration — it is a bold statement that Northern Samar is ready to shine. With the collective efforts of local leaders, stakeholders, and communities, the province is no longer just a hidden gem — it is an emerging destination.
From coral gardens to cultural showcases, Northern Samar is awakening — and the world is beginning to notice.
