New York’s Little Manila celebrates heritage, history and community

WOODSIDE, Queens - Filipino American heritage took the spotlight in Woodside as the community celebrated its first Filipino American History Month (FAHM) Little Manila Parade & Block Party on Sunday, October 18.
The occasion brought a celebration of identity and belonging to a neighborhood that generations of Filipino Americans have helped shape. With music, cultural performances, food and community activities on the program, the gathering offered space to celebrate shared roots and build new connections.
The festivities also honored the people whose service has strengthened the community.

The office of New York State Assemblymember Steven Raga presented proclamations and citations to Filipino Americans in recognition of their contributions and achievements.
“We will continue to grow every year,” Raga said, sharing his hopes for the celebration’s
future.

Organized by Raga’s office alongside the office of Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, Woodside on the Move, NaFFAA New York State Chapter and FANHS Metro New York Chapter, the inaugural event placed Filipino American history at the heart of a neighborhood celebration.

The program included a parade beginning at General Hart Playground and a block party on 41st Avenue between 69th and 70th Streets, near the Little Manila Avenue sign.
For Woodside’s Filipino American community, the celebration connected heritage with everyday community life honoring both the generations who established roots in Little Manila and those carrying its traditions forward.
