New PIDCI officers poised to lead a vibrant 2027 Philippine Independence Day celebration in New York

NEW YORK - The Philippine Independence Day Council, Inc. (PIDCI) has concluded its election for a new set of officers for 2027, with longtime Filipino-American community leader Mariano “Nonong” Aquino Jr. elected president.
Aquino will succeed 2026 PIDCI President Ofelia “Lea” Frain and take the helm of the organization responsible for staging New York City’s annual Philippine Independence Day Parade and related celebrations.
Aquino has held several leadership positions in PIDCI. He served as vice president in 2026 and previously served on the organization’s board of directors and as chairman of the Philippine Independence Day Parade.
He has also been active in the Knights of Rizal in New York, previously serving as chapter commander.
PIDCI is an umbrella organization of Filipino-American groups on the U.S. East Coast and is dedicated to promoting Philippine culture, heritage and traditions.
Its signature event is the annual Philippine Independence Day Parade along Madison Avenue in Manhattan, held every first Sunday of June together with a street fair and cultural festival.
The 2026 parade, held on June 7, marked the 36th annual celebration in New York and commemorated the 128th anniversary of Philippine independence.
Aquino and the newly elected officers are expected to lead preparations for PIDCI’s 2027 activities and the next Philippine Independence Day celebration in New York.
