Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents will begin assisting Transportation Security Administration (TSA) operations at U.S. airports starting tomorrow, as federal authorities move to address staffing pressures and operational challenges.

Officials said the deployment is intended to support TSA personnel during periods of high passenger volume, with ICE agents expected to take on limited, support-related roles. TSA will remain the lead agency responsible for passenger screening and airport security.

The move comes as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which oversees both TSA and ICE, faces funding constraints that have raised concerns about staffing levels and operational capacity across its agencies.

In a statement, President Donald Trump said ICE would take on a stronger role in security efforts.

“ICE will do security like no one has ever seen before, including the immediate arrest of all illegal immigrants who have come into our country,” Trump said.

Airports nationwide have reported increased travel demand, with some experiencing long security lines and workforce shortages.

Authorities have not disclosed how many ICE personnel will be deployed or how long the arrangement will remain in place.

The decision has drawn mixed reactions, with some raising concerns about the presence of immigration enforcement officers in airport operations, particularly among immigrant communities.

Federal officials have yet to release detailed guidance on the scope of ICE agents’ responsibilities.
