BISLIG CITY, Surigao del Sur — Several families were evacuated Friday morning (Feb. 20, 2026) after rising floodwaters inundated parts of Bislig City due to continuous heavy rains brought by a shear line affecting Mindanao.
Residents of Maglikian-Requina in Purok 7, Barangay Tabon were among those forced to leave their homes as water levels rapidly increased overnight.
The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), assisted by local emergency responders and other supporting agencies, conducted preemptive evacuations to ensure the safety of affected families, including children and senior citizens.
Authorities said moderate to heavy rains have persisted since Thursday, causing rivers and drainage systems to swell and overflow. Several low-lying communities across the city reported flooding, with some roads becoming impassable to light vehicles.
Rescue teams deployed boats to transport stranded residents to safer areas and designated evacuation centers. Emergency personnel continue to monitor water levels and weather conditions as rainfall remains intermittent in some parts of the city.
Local officials are urging residents living near rivers, creeks, and landslide-prone areas to remain alert and heed advisories from authorities. They also advised the public to prepare emergency kits and follow instructions should further evacuations become necessary.
As of posting time, authorities have not reported any casualties, but assessments of damage to homes, infrastructure, and crops are ongoing.

Weather agencies earlier warned that the shear line may continue to bring cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rains over parts of Mindanao, increasing the risk of flooding and landslides.
