Jersey City, NJ - Over 140 Filipino Catholic priests from 31 archdioceses and dioceses across the United States and the Caribbean convened in Jersey City for the 7th annual Parilympics, a summer sports festival that blends faith, fraternity, and Filipino cultural heritage through friendly competition and spiritual fellowship.
The three-day event, held at St. Aloysius Church and nearby venues, drew priests of all ages and assignments for a unique gathering that has grown in scale and significance since its inception.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Philippine Consul General Senen T. Mangalile praised the clergy for their steadfast commitment to pastoral service and community leadership abroad.
“By bringing the Filipino brand of malasakit and kapwa-tao into your service, you bring honor to the country of your birth,” Mangalile said, addressing the gathered priests at the St. Aloysius gymnasium.

The Parilympics featured a full slate of activities, including basketball, volleyball, tennis, pickleball, and chess. Traditional Filipino games such as patintero, batuhang bola, and dama were also crowd favorites, reviving cherished memories from the priests’ childhoods and seminary days.
Beyond the athletic competition, the event offered space for reflection, renewal, and spiritual bonding. Each day concluded with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist and guided reflections by guest speakers, fostering deeper connections among clergy members who often serve in isolated or demanding environments.
Organizers emphasized that the Parilympics is more than just a sports event—it is a spiritual homecoming and a celebration of shared identity. Now in its seventh year, the annual tradition continues to strengthen ties among Filipino priests serving overseas while highlighting their role as cultural and spiritual ambassadors.
“This is a moment of joy, a break from the daily demands of ministry, but also a powerful reminder of our unity in mission,” said one participant from the Diocese of Oakland.
As the closing Mass was celebrated, participants expressed hope for the continued growth of the Parilympics and its mission of solidarity, renewal, and joyful witness.
