The Duterte family once again solidified its stronghold in Davao City as former President Rodrigo Duterte made a political comeback, winning the mayoralty race with a landslide 536,888 votes, defeating former Congressman Karlo Nograles, who only garnered 64,835 votes.

Duterte’s return to local politics was met with overwhelming support from Davaoeños, reaffirming the family’s enduring popularity in the region.

His son, incumbent Vice Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, also secured a fresh mandate, receiving 527,827 votesagainst challenger Bernie Al-ag, who got 63,300 votes.

In the congressional races, the Duterte siblings swept both seats. First District Representative Paolo Duterte, the former presidential son, was re-elected with 157,804 votes, defeating Migs Nograles, who obtained 38,381 votes. Meanwhile, Omar Duterte, the youngest in the Duterte political clan, clinched victory in the Second District with 133,007 votes, besting Javi Campos, who received 74,144 votes.

The Duterte family’s clean sweep of the top positions in Davao City reaffirms their political dominance in their home city, a bastion they have held for over three decades. Rodrigo Duterte served as mayor of Davao for more than 22 years before becoming president in 2016.

Political analysts say the results may signify a strategic resurgence of Duterte influence in local and possibly national politics, especially amid ongoing national issues and transitions.
