New York City — In a new chapter for the town of Laoang, Northern Samar, Charlene Lademora-Ongchuan has officially taken her oath as the newly elected mayor, bringing with her a vision grounded in service, compassion, and inclusive progress. With 49.78% of the vote, she secured a decisive victory over rival Gil Adora, who garnered 27.54%. Ongchuan succeeds incumbent Mayor Hector Ong.

In her inaugural remarks, Mayor Ongchuan expressed the deep sense of responsibility that comes with public office. “I have come to understand that being a leader is not just a title but also a calling,” she said. “That is why, just as I have strived to be a light in my home, I now dedicate myself to becoming a light of service and hope for our entire town.”

Mayor Ongchuan outlined her administration’s core priorities: providing accessible healthcare, protecting the rights and welfare of women and youth, ensuring inclusive education, and promoting local economic development through agriculture and tourism. She also emphasized the importance of creating equal opportunities for all residents—especially the underprivileged—across Laoang’s 56 barangays.

Laoang, a town uniquely situated on an island separated from the mainland by a narrow strait, faces distinct geographical and logistical challenges. Its landscape of rolling hills, mountains, and low-lying river valleys presents additional hurdles to development and service delivery. Nevertheless, Mayor Ongchuan is determined to turn these challenges into opportunities.

Even before formally assuming office, Ongchuan had already demonstrated her commitment to public service. She personally initiated outreach programs such as donating wheelchairs and walkers to persons with disabilities, organizing community clean-up drives, and supporting small-scale community needs. These efforts reflect her hands-on approach and genuine concern for the people of Laoang.

Her election marks a turning point not only in leadership but also in vision. “This administration will be anchored on compassion, fairness, and transparency. We will work together to uplift every barangay and ensure that no one is left behind,” Ongchuan declared.

As the new administration begins its journey, the people of Laoang look ahead with hope and anticipation. With Mayor Charlene Lademora-Ongchuan at the helm, the municipality is poised for a new era of inclusive growth and meaningful change.
