NEW YORK — It was a clash of skill, speed, and Pinoy pride as Brigham Young University (BYU) Team stormed to victory in the heart-pounding finals of Palarong Pinoy 2025 — and they’re walking away with bragging rights as this year’s ultimate Champion!

Held on July 26 at the Philippine Consulate grounds in Honolulu, the finale drew a lively crowd of around 100 cheering fans, families, and community members — all fired up to witness the ultimate Filipino street game face-off!

Six feisty teams who qualified from the June 29 prelims at the Filipino Community Center battled it out in classic laro ng lahi: sipa, patintero, tumbang preso, dama, and sungka.

But it all boiled down to one epic final match — BYU vs. Solesisters Team 1 — in a patintero fight for the crown. In a blur of footwork and strategy, Team BYU blazed through the lines and grabbed the championship title!

Consul General Arman R. Talbo took to the mic, praising the high-energy event for uniting Filipinos across Hawai‘i through tradition, fun, and community spirit. “This is the true essence of bayanihan,” he said. “We celebrate our culture while strengthening our bonds.”

Backed by a powerhouse lineup of sponsors and partners — from UP Alumni Hawai‘i, Ramar Foods, and the Congress of Visayan Organizations — the event was a colorful blast of Filipino pride.

From sungka slams to tumbang preso tosses, Palarong Pinoy 2025 proved that the Filipino spirit is alive, kicking, and running straight through the lines — just like that winning BYU team!
