A 56-year-old balikbayan from Hawaii was shot dead by unidentified assailants while walking with his wife in Barangay Aring, Badoc, Ilocos Norte, authorities said.

According to a police report, the victim and his wife were strolling through the village when two men riding a motorcycle suddenly stopped in front of them. One of the suspects allegedly pulled out a firearm and repeatedly shot the victim at close range.

The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and collapsed on the road. He was declared dead as a result of his injuries.

After carrying out the attack, the suspects immediately fled the area on board their motorcycle, leaving residents and witnesses in shock.

Responding police officers secured the crime scene and recovered four spent shell casings believed to have come from a .45-caliber pistol. Investigators are now examining physical evidence and reviewing possible witness accounts to identify the gunmen.

Authorities have yet to establish a motive for the killing and are exploring all possible angles, including personal, business, and other potential connections that may have led to the attack.

Police have launched a manhunt operation and are coordinating with nearby stations in an effort to track down the suspects.

The victim's identity has not yet been publicly released pending notification of relatives, while his wife, who witnessed the attack, has not issued any public statement.

The investigation remains ongoing.
