31-Year-Old Engineer Killed in Late-Night Shooting in Ilocos Norte

A 31-year-old female project engineer was shot dead near her home in Barangay San Marcelino, Dingras, Ilocos Norte, on Friday night, September 26.

Initial police investigation revealed that the incident came to light when a passing resident noticed a van that had fallen into a canal. Upon checking, the resident discovered a woman inside the vehicle, bloodied and unresponsive.

The witness quickly alerted authorities, who responded and rushed the victim to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared her dead on arrival due to multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators said the victim sustained bullet injuries to her shoulder and abdomen.

At the crime scene, police recovered five spent shells from a .45 caliber firearm. Evidence points to an ambush, suggesting that the attack was planned.

The victim, a project engineer for a private construction company in Ilocos Norte, was reportedly on her way home when the shooting occurred. Authorities are now examining whether her murder may be linked to questionable infrastructure projects involving the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The killing has alarmed the local community, as the victim was known to be young, accomplished, and well-respected in her field. Law enforcement units are pursuing all leads to determine the motive and identify the gunmen behind the attack.

Police investigators continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses to piece together the sequence of events. The case remains under active investigation.
