A Fil-Am 17-year-old high school student was fatally stabbed during a violent after-school fight near Milpitas High School, prompting an outpouring of grief from family, friends, and the local community.

Authorities said the incident happened Tuesday afternoon, shortly after classes ended, just one block from the campus. Responding officers found the victim, identified as Jarred Cavan, suffering from stab wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Investigators said multiple teens were involved in the altercation, though the exact circumstances leading up to the fight remain unclear. A teacher who happened to be driving by attempted to break up the confrontation but was unable to stop the violence.

Jarred’s 16-year-old girlfriend, who was also injured during the incident, sustained a stab wound to her hand while trying to shield him. She was treated and later released.

Police confirmed that a 17-year-old suspect remained at the scene and was taken into custody. The teen has been booked into juvenile hall and faces charges of homicide and assault with a deadly weapon. As with all suspects, the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

The motive behind the deadly fight has not yet been disclosed. Authorities are continuing their investigation and are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

Loved ones gathered at the site of the stabbing for a candlelight vigil, leaving messages and releasing balloons in memory of Jarred. The Milpitas Unified School District said it is offering counseling and support services to students and staff affected by the tragedy.

As the community mourns the loss of a young life, calls for answers and justice continue to grow.
